According to NBTA assessment, the top 5 travel management initiatives to cut costs are: 1) Overall travel and entertainment budget cuts 2) Encouraging or requiring less air travel 3) Sending fewer employees to conventions/conferences /trade shows 4) Emphasising advance purchase of air tickets 5) Strenghtening travel policies mandates Packages and solutions such as Travel Grid (Travel and Expense Management) help corporates to meet any of these objectives. It validates needs for travel by enforcing pre-travel authorization, enforcing policies, encouraging advance trave planning and centralizing travel process. It eliminates manual data entry by automating general ledger posting. The MIS and analytics help consolidated volumes to drive better bargains. The system is modular, allowing additions of cutomer's own functionalities as well.Surveys have also indicated that the state of global economy has been a major factor in reduced spend for meetings, conferences, incentives and client events despite the fact that 85% of all the senior executives report offsite strategy meetings and leadership conferences as an important part of theirs' companies business planning and talent-development process.
Techcello Survey on SaaS, Cloud & Multi-tenancy

We did a simple survey in 2011 titled “On the road to SaaS Where are You?. The results were shared free of cost with all the participants. Many of them benefited from knowing where they are viz-a-viz the rest of the market and it helped them plan their roadmap better. Now we are back again in 2012, with a similar survey. But this time it covers 3 dimensions : Cloud, SaaS and Multi-tenancy. The online survey has 5 questions and it will take less than 2 minutes. Like last year, we will share the results with all the participants. You can then plot your future strategy after taking in to consideration the speed and direction in which the market is moving, combined with your own unique position in the technology – market space. The identity of the participants and the data provided by each participant, will be kept confidential. Only summary and trend results will be published. Please click on this link below to complete this 2 minute survey. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/techcellosurvey2012 Please contact rakesh.c@techcello.com for any questions.

Typical Margins of Software Services Companies

Hi there, I was wondering what typical margins for Software Services Companies (web developers, software developers, etc) are. What comes to mind is a structure as follows: revenue: 100% cost of services sold (incl salaries of devs, project managers, testers, etc): 55% cost of sales: 5% cost of marketing: 5% general & administrative: 10% ---------- ebitda: 25% are there any 'industry benchmarks' out there? Infosys - one of India's largest IT Companies does 42% gross profict (revenue - cost of services sold), has expenses of around 13% or revenue and a profit of around 25%, which is quite impressive.

Need Some Advice

I am negotiating to purchase a 16 yr. old homebased online educational software company from an individual. I have no experience in this type of business, but have both retail and wholesale sales experience and have owned my own company for many years before selling it. Being homebased and a company with no employees or inventory is attractive to me. My questions: 1. What's does the near future hold for ed. software in the K-12 and higher ed. ?? 2. Are sales of licenses the most profitable part of the business? 3. How do I maintain institutional contracts and bid on new ones? 4. Over the 5-6 years this individual has owned the business the sales have been up and down. He says this is typical of major manufacturer's launches of new product not being predictable. Is this a valid reason for up and down sales? 5. Generally what should I be looking out for in my negototiations? rcal
[Read more]
