I'm interested in finding out about how many of which sort of products are "out there" in the customer base for IBM's Database (thinking here of DB2/UDB particularly) & Server products.

We're considering porting one of our products to IBM (and/or possibly Oracle) and we're trying to get a sense of the distribution in the installed base of the products.

Is there a good reliable source of installed base product/marketing data that we could use as a starting point? IBM themselves are hopeless in trying to supply this datat.

I suggest you contact the DB2 user group (see: http://www.idug.org/wps/portal/idug ). They are pretty active and may be able to help you.

IBM tries to be the center of all things offered to customers running IBM mainframes. They go beyond thrid-party developer support in terms of their marketing support. They will funnel business to you. So why not ask IBM. They would have some numbers to give you that are not proprietary, but good enough. Knowing who to call would be the hard part, so start with your sales rep.
