The market is EAI (Enterprise Application Integration), so it seems by what you want to do. Putting labels on things is tough sometimes. EAI is not talked about as much now as it was a few years ago.

There are software products out there to help in what you are trying to do, and from there, I'm sure you can hook up with the consultants they recommend to go the last mile.

Start perhaps with Information Builders and their iWAY product line. May not be exactly what you are looking for, but a very good place to start.
