Hi,

I am Murthy, business development director of AIT Infotech, an IT company from India. We are looking to hire a business development consulting firm to help us win IT projects in US & Europe. Is this something anybody can help with and if so, what would be the fee structure for such a business development firm? For more information about our company profile and our IT services, please visit our website www.ait-infotech.com.

Looking forward to some replies.

Regards,

Murthy K

Hi Murthy,

There are quite a few people on this forum who can help you. Could you provide a little more information about what you have in mind?

Are you looking for a partner to do marketing, sales and business development? Or do you want to simply launch some lead generation campaigns?

If you want a partner, you're probably talking about a percentage of sales and probably some up-front investment. If you want a marketing agency, that's more likely to be on a per-project, hourly or retainer basis.

Hi Judy,

Thanks for your reply. We are looking at a firm that can help us develop business in US & Europe. Lead generation would be the first task, thereafter, our technical team shall actively work with the consulting firm in closing these deals. We would be looking at giving some upfront payment on monthly basis and then commission for over achieving targets. There shall be certain targets that the consulting firm will have to achieve.

Today, we are about USD 3 million company. Our clientiele is mainly from Japan and some from Europe. We have done a little work in the US too. So, our main objective is to develop markets in US & Europe in that order. We want to double our revenue this year. Should we go for a consulting firm or for an individual consultant? What do you think would be the monthly expense for us and what kind of targets should I set out for the consulting firm?

Your insight into this will be helpful.

I also invite anybody else who can throw light on my questions.

Regards,

Murthy

Hi Murthy,

You could use an individual or a consulting firm. It depends on how much money you want to spend and on how quickly you want results.

An individual will probably take longer but be less expensive. A consulting firm will be able to place more resources at your disposal, which should help things move faster.

I think it would be hard to do much for less than $10K a month (and it should probably ramp up to about $50K if you're looking for $3 million in revenue from the U.S.).

You'll get results faster if you have a compelling value proposition and a well-defined target market. Who, exactly, are you trying to sell to? What sets you apart from other offshore outsourcing businesses?
